Biomass boilers through the Green Homes Grant

Biomass boilers through the Green Homes Grant

09 October 2020

Make your home warmer and your energy bills cheaper with a Green Homes Grant.

The Government’s new Green Homes Grant scheme is one every English homeowner should check out. It may provide serious free funding for home improvements that will improve the energy efficiency of your home and your home’s value.

Launched just before the start of the month, the Green Homes Grant is…

✅  Available to all homeowners and residential landlords apart from unoccupied new builds.

✅  It gives grants (ie non repayable) of up to £5,000 per household to cover two thirds of the cost of labour, materials, and VAT of installing certain energy efficient measures. So, if installation costs £7,500, you’ll get a £5,000 voucher from the Government and you pay the remaining £2,500.

✅  Those on certain benefits (e.g. housing benefit, universal credit and pension ‘guaranteed’ credit) can claim up to £10,000, which covers the entire cost – you pay nothing.

Be quick though, as you only have until 31 March 2021, to get the installation completed and that may not be easy for everyone.

Wrap up your home this winter

Make sure you’re one of the 600,000 households who could save up to £600 a year on energy bills by applying today. Installing energy efficient home improvements also cuts emissions, which is better for the environment.

How to apply

✅   Check if you’re eligible for a voucher
✅   Check what improvements may be suitable for your home
✅   Choose which improvements you would like and see an estimate of how much they may cost
✅   Find registered installers to get quotes to carry out the work
✅   Apply for your voucher

The Green Homes Grant scheme will never include official representatives coming to your property uninvited or cold calling on the phone to encourage you to join the scheme.

Tradespeople and businesses that are appropriately certified to install low carbon heating improvements in homes need to be registered with TrustMark to carry out work under the scheme. This confirms to homeowners that high standards will be met.

Tradespeople and businesses that install low carbon heating improvements also need to be MCS certified.

You can only access the scheme if you need what the Government calls a ‘primary’ improvement. These must be new or a top up. It can’t replace what you have already. ie insulation and low-carbon heating

Low carbon heat
